Pointcloud Decimation

Feature Description

This feature allows you to smartly reduce the number of points in your pointcloud. Often times pointclouds have more points than are really necessary and because each point increases the file size, being able to halve them but still have the same good look is what this feature is for.

How to use

  1. To use this feature in Export or Rendering you must enable the feature’s main toggle.
  2. You have one main choice with this feature: How many points to keep? And you’re able to respond with either a set number, which would be the Max Points option, or with a set percentage, which would be the Percentage option.
  3. With the Percentage option you are defining how much of the pointcloud do you wish to remove in percentage value from 0 to 100, where 0 means you wish to not remove anything and 100 meaning that you wish to remove everything.
  4. With the Max Points option you are defining the number of points that must remain after decimation. So if you have a pointcloud of 1 million points, and this option set to 100’000, then you’ll end up with a pointcloud of 100’000 points. Alternatively, if instead started with a pointcloud of 50’000 points, then you’ll remain with a 50’000 point pointcloud, as this feature won’t add new points.
